More Genentech

Today, I made some minor adjustments to my retirement portfolio. I sold Novartis (NVS) today for a ~9.6% gain over a three month period. I used the cash from the Novartis sale and purchased some more Genentech (DNA). So this is my third purchase of Genentech over a three year period. See the chart below for the Genentech purchases.

Genentech reports after the bell today. The results will be good, but how good?

Does that mean you think Genentech will outperform Novartis?

Yeah, Novartis is one of the best big cap pharma companies. I still like it, but I just see more growth opportunities in Genentech. The long term earnings growth rate for Novartis is ~11%(pretty good for a big pharma) vs. Genentech, which is expected to grow earnings 35%+ for the next 3-5 years. Obviously there's more risk in Genentech, but bigger reward as well.

Zune and iPod: Most people compare the Zune to the Touch, but after seeing how slim and surprisingly small and light it is, I consider it to be a rather unique hybrid that combines qualities of both the Touch and the Nano. It's very colorful and lovely OLED screen is slightly smaller than the touch screen, but the player itself feels quite a bit smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while being just a hair thicker.
