ChoicePoint and Energy East Approval

It looks like there is some good news on the M&A front. Yesterday, CFIUS (Committee on Foreign Investment in the US) approved the acquisition of ChoicePoint (Ticker: CPS) by Reed Elsevier. The only hurdle left is the ok from the FTC, which I expect shortly. I’m looking for this deal to close by the end of this month.

My experiment with Energy East (Ticker: EAS) was a success. Iberdrola received the approval from the NYS regulators on the acquisition of Energy East. I added to my position through the morning as it became more likely that the NYS regulators were going to approve the merger. My average cost was $27.27 and sold at $28.10 for a quick 3% return.
